In 2012, my students decided to adopt over 20 children from within the Thea Bowman Leadership Academy Family. Their ages ranged from 6-18. My students collected many through various groups and organizations, including the Thea Bowman PTA. All together my students raised over $2100. My students then went shopping and spent one day in class wrapping all the presents. It was a wonderful event, could not be prouder of all of my students.
Angel Tree 2012
In 2013, my students decided to do another Angel Tree project. This year, we decided to work with the Salvation Army of Lake County to adopt needy children for Christmas. This year my students, along with help from the PTA set an all time class record for me by raising over $5200 for the program. We will be adopting 40 children for Christmas and buying almost $1600 worth of clothes for needy families in Northwest Indiana. They have done a wonderful job and I am so proud of each and every one of them.

Angel Tree 2014
In 2014, Lake Central adopted children from the Dyer United Methodist Church. Other teachers, secretaries and administration adopted 44 Angels. My students decided to adopt some as well. We raised over $3900 and took 27 Angels which was all they had left. With the remaining money, we adopted over 40 Angels from the Salvation Army program. In all, the school adopted more than 110 children for Christmas. It was an amazing project, I am so proud of my students and the Lake Central community.
Angel Tree 2011
In 2011, my students decided to combine with another teacher and raise money for the Porter County Salvation Army. With the help of Nick Haas and the amazing students I had at Portage High School, we were able to raise over $3700 and adopted 37 children for Christmas.
In 2015, Lake Central Student Council and my classes, adopted 80 children from the Dyer United Methodist Church and 16 from St. John the Evangelist Church. 61 of these angels were adopted by the Lake Central School community. We raised money to adopt the rest of the Angels. All combined we raised $14,528! We adopted the remaining angels and then purchased over 1100 items for the Salvation Army program. The rest of the money will be donated to Riley's Children's Hospital in Indianapolis. It was an all time record for the amount of money that we raised and the amount of children we adopted this Christmas. We estimate the total to be over 350! I want to thank the entire Lake Central Community for making this project a success!
